Thanksgiving Week!!

Ok, so before I get started telling you about my Thanskgiving break, I have to tell you a funny thing that just happened.  So, I am at work and I was out collecting my dirt samples and I walk up to the stock pile of washed sand which is probably around 80 feet tall.  I have my shovel and bucket and I go the the spot where the new sand is like always and I go to grab my sample and suddenly I sink literally up to my knees in sand! I tried running up the stock pile but I just kept sinking deeper and deeper! haha I must have looked like an idiot, in fact I know I did because I had to do freaking high kicks just to get my legs out of the sand. How embarrassing. I finally just stopped when I got waist deep and turned around.  My pants and boots are full of wet sand now.  haha what a way to start the day.  Anyways, Thanksgiving....

We left for St. George on Wednesday and got there around 7 pm that night.  We stayed half the time with Landon's dad and the other half with my fam.  It was nice that we were able to go back and forth and be able to have fun with both families over the holiday. On Thanksgiving, we had lunch at 12 with Landon's dad and his family and then lunch again with my family at 1:30.  Landon and I were in pain by the time the second lunch was over and we didn't even eat that much at either. haha Luckily, I wore my fat shirt so no one could tell.
After lunch with my family, we all headed out on a fun litttle hike in the red rocks.  It wasn't really anyone's idea of a good time after eating a Thanksgiving lunch, but we all were really glad we did.  It was perfect weather and it was fun to play around on the rocks with everyone.  Even Grandma and Grandpa Border got climbing around.  So fun.

On Friday, Landon, Skyler, Dad-in-law, my broseph and I all went shooting out in the hills.  We were just shooting targets, but it was way fun to get to try all the different guns they had.  Landon's grandpa bought a gun for him a couple years ago and Landon finally got to shoot it and bring it home.  And now Landon is getting all into guns and stuff.  My broseph brought his AR 15 that he bought on his mission and it had this scope on it that made it feel like you were cheating.  I firmly believe I could hit anything with that gun.  We had a great time and right after we went shooting, Landon, Sky, Broseph and I loaded up the bikes and headed out to go riding.

By the time it was over, we all were covered in red dirt.  It was so dusty out there that we were filthy by the time we were done.

As you can see -------->

Now these beauts are my new running shoes.  This girl I visit teach swears by them.  She says they help your body so much when it comes to running.  Landon's step bro works at Shoe Carnival, so we got a deal on them.  And that- was the extent of my Black Friday shopping.  We didn't even shop on Friday, we got those on Saturday.  But I will keep you updated if they truly help.
Friday night we went to The Muppets with my family.  My uncle Chet was sitting next to me and he was just as funny as the movie was.  He was cracking up through the entire thing!  I am pretty sure at one point he shed a few tears too.  Haha  I know I did, that movie was so funny!!  I def recommend it.
And there you have it.  The first Thanksgiving that Landon and I were married.  Definitely a success.

Blast from the Past...aka 5 Months Ago

So today I was reading this darling girl's blog and realized how special her post about her wedding day was.  And I thought to myself, "Whit- you daft little thing, why didn't you blog about your wedding??"  So here I am.  Five months late to describe to you the very best day of my life. *ahem*

The day was the 24th of June two thousand eleven.  I woke to a cloudless morning with the sun shining warm and loving.  I went downstairs and ate a little breakfast before my wonderful friend Hailey came to do my hair and make up.  My sister sat on the toilet and kept us company while we chatted and filled the room with hairspray.  It was so girly and fun, I felt like I was getting ready for prom...except that I was getting reading for my wedding.  I got dressed in my white skirt and my purple sweater with my bright yellow heels.  A brand new outfit courtesy of my grandmama.  So sweet.  She is always spoiling me.  And it was off to the temple we went.  The temple was so incredibly special.  In the bride's room, my mom was there to help me with anything I needed.  Including reminding me to use the restroom before putting on the big ol' dress.  That room was gorgeous.  The flowers and the ornate rugs were beautiful and they even matched my wedding colors (yellow, lavender, and green) it was truly my day.  I remember sitting in the Celestial room with Landon before the sealing.  We were so happy.  Hand in hand, I sat there in a loving silence with my soon-to-be eternal companion.  The spirit was so strong and I knew with every fiber of my being that I was in the right place with the right person.  The sealer was so sweet.  Everything he said was everything we needed to hear.  I remember sitting directly across the room from my dad.  I winked at him, which made him cry.  :) How cute is that?  After the sealing, I went and freshened up for the pictures.  I waited in the lobby for my brand new husband who took way longer to get ready than the bride, weird right?  He came out and the look on his face when he saw me there was priceless.  I litereally fell in love with his face all over again.  We went outside, it was a beautiful morning and we took  many wonderful pictures.  As you can see...  We went and grabbed a quick bite to eat with the fam at The Olive Garden and then my mom told Landon and me to go do whatever while everyone else went set up the reception.  My mom was so awesome. She wanted my wedding day to be absolutely perfect which I can say with confidence that it was.  I was worried that it was going to be stressful, going from the temple to go set up, but my mom had it all under control and sent us to have a relaxing afternoon before the reception.
ahh the reception... again, it was a creation by my mother straight from her magical imagination.  I wish I had the skill of planning such beautiful things but I don't, which is why I am SO thankful I had her.  Seriously, just check out these decorations....She made them all. With the help of my sister and my sweet, sweet neighbors and friends.

How CUTE are these?? I remember I came home one day and our garage was FILLED to the ceiling with these willow tree branches.  I go inside and I was like, "Mom, why is the nieghbor's tree in our garage?" and she was like, " I have the cutest idea for some decoations!" She explained to me over and over what she had in mind and I just couldn't picture it until she made it.  They were beautiful! We had one over the cake and one over the line. People were dying over them.
Shout out to my mom! you rock.

The reception was the part of the century.  We literally tried to bring the roof down with our dancing.  This was our wedding song, "All about Us" by He is We.  When I told Landon that I liked that song and he listened to it, he said, "We don't have to look for a song anymore.  This is it."  The cake was gorgeous.  The bottom was rasperry swirl and the middle and the top were fudge marble.  It was a shame we each only got one piece.  Though we still have the top tier for our one year.  It was the same with the ice cream.  We had Leatherbys's come and cater the party.  Everyone told it was delicious, but alas, Landon and I were too busy dancing the night away that we somehow missed the ice cream.  We had such a good time.  The reception was everything I wanted and more.  My friends and family that came and partied hard with us made it what it was.  And after the dancing was my personal favorite, again it was the doing of my mother, we let lanterns go in the sky, just like in Tangled.  Landon and I released a giant red heart-shaped lantern first and then everyone followed with their own. People were pulling over on the highway just to watch the lanterns in the sky.  It was so amazing.  My wedding day was in every sense of the word, magical.

Craving the Slopes

My mother would be so proud. I want to hit the slopes SO BAD! Especially because of all the new gear I have.  I know I tried to post pictures of it from the website a few posts ago, but for some reason that failed. So here is a picture of me in it.  At my make-shift ski resort. Ballin', right? I'm so excited to try it all out!
First of all, there was My Fair Lady this week with my mom, sister and grandmama. So. Fun.  We went to Chilis for dinner and headed to the show.  It was a great performance.  I never get sick of a classic musical.  and I especially love that one.

Next, there was the moon on Friday.  This was early in the morning and you can't tell really in the picture, but seriously, it was huge. and the colors in the sky made it that much more beautiful.  Then Landon, Sky, his girl Emily and I went to Sushi Ya! Only because it's my favorite and Sky needed to write a paper about how restuaraunt rip you off or something... Anything that gives you an excuse to get sushi, right?

Then there was the BYU game on Saturday night.  It was a destruction of sorts.  Of course we won. We had a good time with the in-laws going to din-din before the game and bundled up tight for the rest of the night because take it from me, it was cold!!

And yesterday.  Yesterday was a busy one.  Landon and I headed to my dear friend/old roommate Lynlee's mission farewell.  She did so wonderful and I am so proud of her. :) She will do amazing.  Then we proceeded to Layton to spend the day with the fam.  That night, my friends Brant and his fiance Autumn and Andy came over for a crepe night.  We used to have a crepe night on Sundays back in high school.  We'd make delicious food (and by we, I mean my mom) and play games and have a good ol' time.  As you can see --->

What a great and much needed weekend it was.

meh....

this is me at this very moment.  I have a headache. The carpet comforts me. not.  It's just where the computer is located because it has to be plugged into the wall at the moment.
blah.

Here is a delightful song though.  Love her voice.

And for This Evening...

I'm so excited for tonight! It's going to be a girl's night with my mom, sister and grandmama. :) So excited, we are going to see My Fair Lady at the Hale Center Theatre.  I love those gals and I love musicals so tonight is going to be pretty spectacular.

Now listen to this...

Art as Flirtation and Surrender

In your light I learn how to love.
In your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest,
where no one sees you,
but sometimes I do,
and that sight becomes this art.
-Rumi

I don't know if you can tell, but I love the poet Rumi.  My poetry teacher taught a lot his work last semester and ever since then, he has been my favorite.  I don't think I have read a poet who understood so much about love and he knows exactly how to describe it.  When people ask, "What is Love?" and nobody really knows they answer... they're all like, "uhhhh, there are no words to say that would tell just what love is you can only experience it when you find The One."  You know... throw a whole bunch of words and crap into a sentence to make it sound like you know what they're talking about?  But that isn't true.  Rumi can tell you what love is.  And reading his works can make you feel it, even if you haven't found The One.  And when you have?  His stuff sounds that much better.

5th of November

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
the Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I see no reason why Gunpowder Treason should
ever
be
forgot.

Y'all wanna see a great, nay, a life-changing film?  Ok, so maybe not life-changing, but V for Vendetta is probably one of the most amazing videos I have ever watched.

We were up in Heber last night staying at Landon's parent's house.  All of our buddies came over to watch V for Vendetta because it was the fifth of Novemeber.  According to Landon and his friends, it's a sin not to watch that movie on that day.
It was nice, hanging out with our friends.  It's true what they say about married couples falling off the face of the planet.  It just gets harder to get out and socialize when you work all day, have to clean the apartment and cook dinner and you don't live with 5 other girls anymore.  I was glad to be able to spend time with our friends, even just for a few hours.

the 5th of November is also my dog's birthday.  Love him.
